The Wedding | What you need to know
Your Wedding
Capturing your day in the most unobtrusive and authentic way is the absolute top priority. After having covered over two hundred Bermuda weddings of every conceivable type, I've refined my services to suit each situation.
As a boutique studio, I carefully limit my bookings each year in order to give the best possible client experience. It is my goal to ease you through the process, explain every step and tell your unique story through the images of your engagement session and wedding. I take great pride in telling your story through elegant, timeless images that will be cherished for years to come.
Being invited into your most trusted inner circle to document one of the most important days of your life is a humbling experience and not one taken lightly. As a full service photographer I’ll be with you from the beginning through till the end for a full set of consistent images that capture every special moment along the way. I am happy to provide references via past couples both locally and overseas.
Two things are needed in order to secure your wedding date, a retainer of 30% and a signed agreement. Both are completed electronically and payment is available via credit card – Visa and Mastercard. Until both of those are received the date is not secure. There are limited spots each year due to availability.
With weddings 6 hours and over I include a complimentary engagement session. As it is added at no cost I do not then offer a reduction in rate if it is not used. It’s an extra that I add on to help to get to know and work with my clients beforehand. Some clients do use it instead for rehearsal coverage with is perfectly fine with me!
Yes, every image is professionally colour corrected and balanced for a consistent look. All editing work is done in house for full control. The images on the Blog are exactly what you can expect, vibrant, sharp and contrasty images. Black and white treatment availble upon request.
From Friday through Sunday I require a minimum 4 hour booking, coverage 4 hours and longer means that I can provide the type of service and coverage to give a well rounded and complete experience for my clients. Weekday coverage is available from 1 hour and up.
Of course, I get couples who ask for privacy and this is never a problem simply let me know and I can amend the agreement to reflect the request (there is no fee associated with this).
If you are a resident then a local bank transfer is the easiest but of course cash and cheque’s are always welcome. Credit cards are also no problem, Mastercard or Visa. PayPal is also an option. If you are overseas and would like to wire the funds contact me for the details.
The Bermuda sun can be harsh up until later afternoon, generally I tell couples the later the better. During peak summer it is still light past 8pm which allows for a later ceremony if desired. Do bear in mind though that at 4pm in the summer months the sun is still very high and hot, nice why a 6pm ceremony can work better! In the Spring and Autumn months the ceremony can be easily coordinated with a lovely crisp evening in the final hour of daylight.
You sure can, all wedding clients receive an image release granting them permission to make prints and use the images for personal use.
Keeping things simple is key. It’s not always an easy thing to do but it helps so much in the planning and execution. Limiting travel and locations goes a long way to helping the day flow and maximizing my time with you. Ensuring plenty of rest and a good lunch on the day is also very important!
Prints purchased through the online gallery are always going to be superior to typical consumer labs, here’s why:
– Print orders are received by me and placed through my US partner lab. It is a professional lab with a very high quality output. Their equipment is closely calibrated to ensure consistency and color accuracy. Guaranteed quality!
– Superior Fuji or Kodak papers with several choices in paper types – lustre, metallic etc.
– Convenience, with a simple ordering process your order is placed and delivered to you within a couple of weeks, anywhere in the world.
– Free retouching.
– Numerous mounting, backing and framing options along with protective coatings that aren’t available in local labs.
Absolutely, anywhere in the world. No problem.
Second shooters can be a great addition for larger more complex wedding plans. When there are multiple locations involved and maximum coverage is needed then a second shooter is perfect to ensure everything is captured for your special day! That said I very rarely work with a second shooter and unless specifically noted everything on the Blog is by just me.
“With the exception of the officiant, a photographer is the only person putting on an improvised, one-time-only performance each wedding day. We juggle dynamic lighting conditions, maintain constant situational awareness, and stay spontaneously creative and focused for up to nine hours or more with minimal breaks. The result is a collection of original compositions that capture a wide range of emotions and subjects to tell the story of two individuals surrounded by all the important people in their lives.”

"On top of being extremely talented and professional, Gavin is a kind and calming influence on your wedding day. And the pictures were more beautiful than I could have hoped for! He made everything easy from the minute we first reached out to him. I can't say enough good things about him, and I feel lucky to have found him"

Working Together – What’s Next?
WHERE TO START?
Getting married is easy, planning a wedding on the other hand can be stressful, it can be a totally overwhelming and daunting task.
Hopefully this blurb can help, it covers what’s included and outlines how we work together. My goal is to make everything as easy as possible for you.
INITIAL ENQUIRY
Pop me an email or use the contact form, check on the availability or your date, let me know a bit about you and what you have planned. I’ll gladly send you my detailed pricing info and answer any questions you may have.
What to book? Essentially it all boils down to time, how much coverage do you want? How about an engagement session or a stunning wedding album or the Photobooth?
Typically at this point there is some discussion either in person or over the phone, Skype even or maybe just sticking to email. I’ll send my online agreement which has some basic terms and conditions, which along with a 30% retainer secures the date! Once I have both of those I’ll send along a confirmation with my welcome letter which includes all sorts of helpful information.
MOVING FORWARD
Ok so you’re booked! Phew, one less thing to worry about but now what? Next starts the discussion over the big day, logistics timing and all sorts of other details are hashed out over the coming weeks and months.
Engagement session, I can’t recommend them enough! If you’ve booked one or have one included it’s time to give that some thought. Where and when are the two obvious questions. Given the typical season I try and get these all done by April at the latest. As for locations it’s totally up to you, get as creative as you like. Have a look at some of the more recent sessions for inspiration.
The pre-wedding meeting, typically 6 weeks out for a local wedding or the week of for a destination wedding, I'll touch base regarding a get together. This is our last run through, a chance to check our details and confirm everything.
THE BIG DAY!
It's here, after months of planning the big day is upon us! The day typically plays out just as planned, weather permitting of course. If you went along with an engagement session then at this point you should be a lot more comfortable being photographed. My goal is to ensure I capture everything and everyone special to you and so much more but without being here, there and everywhere. A tricky challenge that comes with experience. Consistent, all day coverage is the name of the game. I'm there with you throughout the entirety of the day along with my trusty assistant.
A typical wedding consists of bridal getting ready, ceremony, family and bridal party, B&G portraits then into the reception. A lot of couples these days like to see each other before hand, I love this and it can really free up your time later on.
POST BIG DAY
I typically post some sort of preview on Instagram (unless you've requested privacy) This next part is where I spend countless hours, the post processing. Every image is painstakingly processed, colour corrected, and worked to perfection. What’s left is a finished, polished set of images ready for delivery to you. This can take anywhere from 1-4 weeks depending on the time of year.
THE GOODIES
It's time! Your images are ready. You'll receive an email with detailed instructions on how to access, save and share your images. Each customer receives:
- Online Gallery – share, review, order and organize away
- Digital download with print release and full size images available immediately
